ADL Response to Democratic Party Official Email about Elie Wiesel

  • July 5, 2016

The following message was sent to the Los Angeles County Democratic Party.

To:  Eric Bauman, Chair, Los Angeles County Democratic Party

Dear Mr. Bauman,

The Anti-Defamation League is deeply disturbed by an email posted (see below) on social media reportedly from Dorothy Reik, President of the Progressive Democrats of the Santa Monica Mountains and representative of the 50th district on the Democratic Party Los Angeles County Central Committee.

While the entire world is mourning the death of Nobel Laureate and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel —  often called the conscience of the world — it is particularly disturbing that this Democratic Party official would share these vicious words, even expressed as her personal opinion.

We sincerely hope that leaders of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party will use their own cherished rights of free speech to denounce these repugnant sentiments.

Sincerely,

Amanda Susskind

Pacific Southwest Regional Director

Anti-Defamation League
