Public, private and parochial educators from throughout Southern California joined with Holocaust survivors and scholars for Session Two of the 2013-14 Holocaust Education Institute on February 21.
Session Two, Experiential Holocaust Education, took place at the Museum of Tolerance and the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust (LAMOTH). Participants started the day with a private tour of the Museum of Tolerance’s Holocaust exhibit followed by Q and A with the museum’s resident scholar, Aaron Breitbart.
The second part of the day took place at LAMOTH, where participants had time for self-guided exploration of the museum, followed by a presentation by survivor Peter Daniels. The day ended with a presentation from the LAMOTH’s new Executive Director, Samara Hutman, on ways to encourage meaningful interaction with survivors in the classroom.
One participant wrote, “This has been a truly awesome learning experience to share with my students and others.
Thank you for an insightful and inspiring course to teach tolerance in the world and make this world a better place.”
