ADL and El Caballero Country Club celebrated the 31st Annual ADL/El Cab Golf Tournament on September 10. National Chair Barry Curtiss-Lusher extended greetings from ADL headquarters and welcomed the honorees and guests.
Jon Cookler received the Sam Saltsman Award for his leadership and commitment to ADL and El Caballero. Jon’s father was among the club’s first members and Jon has been a dedicated member of the golf committee, previously chairing this tournament. Jon and his wife Faith are active ADL leaders at the regional and national levels. In his acceptance remarks, Jon recounted an anti-Semitic incident that sparked his involvement 30 years ago and why ADL is still so important to him today: “I am not concerned about those who are different, different from you or me, I am concerned about those who are indifferent, indifferent to the hate, bigotry and anti-Semitism in our world today.”
Jack Sheldon Neinstein and Kenneth A. Miles, on behalf of NSBN LLP, received the Corporate Community Service Award. Both Jack and Ken shared their personal connections with the organization’s mission and its importance. Ken highlighted their TEAM NSBN Takes Action Program which supports a wide variety of causes. Sharing his tipping point, Jack described hearing a news report about ADL’s swift reaction to a recent writing assignment in which 8th graders were asked to use critical thinking skills to determine whether or not the Holocaust occurred. “After I read these quotes [of students convinced the Holocaust did NOT occur] I felt that if there is anything I can do to eliminate these beliefs I would go above and beyond.”
Alison Diamond and Ron Salter served as co-chairs. Attendees enjoyed a full day of activities, including 18 holes of golf followed by dinner, awards presentation and live auction.
160 golfers participated and 350 dinner guests attended to support our Honorees and raised $386,000 for ADL.
