ADL Statement on Workmen’s Circle Vandalism

  • February 7, 2014

ADL Regional Director Amanda Susskind issued the following statement in response to the “Free Palestine” graffiti scrawled on the Workmen’s Circle building in the Pico-Robertson neighborhood, that was followed by “F**k Palestine” counter-vandalism.

ADL condemns both the original act of vandalism as well as the subsequent “counter-vandalism.”  ADL reached out to Workmen’s circle and LAPD to offer our assistance.  The incident has been added to ADL’s log of anti-Semitic incidents.

We are always concerned when Jewish institutions are targeted for vandalism.   The counter-graffiti is also disturbing.  It is important for people to know that community leaders condemn the original hateful graffiti.  This message is not conveyed by simply adding more hateful graffiti.

We have confidence that LAPD will continue to investigate these crimes and, if the perpetrators are arrested, that they will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
