On February 18, 2015, ADL staff travelled to West Los Angeles College to provide training and assistance through the FBI’s Community Relations Executive Seminar Training (CREST) program.  The training was sponsored by the FBI Los Angeles Citizens Academy Alumni Association in coordination with the Los Angeles FBI.  ADL A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute Project Director Dave Reynolds opened the training with an exercise designed to teach participants the language and vocabulary of bias before engaging in a conversation about the escalation of bias into prejudicial attitudes and hate motivated violence.  Reynolds then showed a short film on racial stereotyping and the session closed with each participant committing to use what they had learned to affect positive changes in their communities.  The program concluded with FBI Special Agent speaking about civil rights violations.

Participants received ADL resources, including “Empowering Children in the Aftermath of Hate,” and were invited to attend the 2015 Helene and Joseph Sherwood Prize Luncheon for Combatting Hate, which recognizes law enforcement officers who have gone beyond the call of duty to combat hate.
