ADL Leaders Report on Vatican Visit

  • May 8, 2017

At the Executive Committee of the Pacific Southwest Regional Board on May 2, Stephanie (left) and Howard Sherwood (right) and Steven Nichols reported on their recent ADL mission to the Vatican and meeting with the Pope.

Nichols, who participated on the Mission with his wife Harriet, discussed how impressed he was with the high-level priests on the Vatican staff — including the head of the Vatican’s interfaith services and the Secretary to the Pope — with whom he shared dinner.  Howard Sherwood reported on the Pope’s speech that included thanking ADL for its work and that the Pope denounced anti-Semitism in all its forms.  He was also moved by meeting the Pope:  “You can feel him looking into your soul.”

Stephanie Sherwood summed up the experience:  “To say it was amazing is the understatement of the century.”
