ADL Los Angeles Regional Director Jeffrey Abrams recently spoke to a hybrid audience for a joint program with the Jewish Federation of the Desert. Abrams spoke to a small in-person audience along with an online audience via a webinar on November 30. The topic of his presentation was “Responding to Hate through Education: Antisemitism, Anti-Zionism, and Ethnic Studies.” He discussed the current education landscape and its challenges, particularly how we can respond to hate, bias and antisemitism in our school communities. Additionally, Abrams spoke about ADL’s approach to recent current events, including the State of California’s adoption of an Ethnic Studies graduation requirement for high school students, antisemitism and anti-Zionism in schools, and recent trends in antisemitic incidents. Audience members in person and online also participated in a Q&A session. The event was sponsored by the Helene and Melvin Berman Lecture Series.
