The following message was distributed throughout the Los Angeles Region to campus partners and community leaders at the start of the 2018-19 school year.
Dear Campus Partner,
As a new school year begins, we want to — first and foremost — thank you for being a partner against bias and hate. As institutions that value diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging, we know that, of course, prevention of hate is just as important as responding to incidents. As a community leader, you are in a position to model policies and practices in collaboration with your students, staff, and faculty toward these goals.
With this in mind, ADL has a number of new resources for you to help in your work:
- Hate/Uncycled: This resource for administrators and campus law enforcement teams addresses the response to bias and hate incidents from a holistic perspective. We discuss considerations to most effectively Prevent, Prepare, Respond to, Heal, and Educate the community about bias and hate. Education after an incident also leads right back to the ever-present proactive work of building an inclusive campus climate.
- Oneday Against Hate: We live in uncharted times. With hate emboldened and on the rise in our everyday lives, what can we do to turn the tide on hate, bigotry, and bias? We can try to understand each other better. On October 1, 2018, we’ll come together in our neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, houses of worship, and communities to start conversations of understanding, personal interactions that help us understand each other’s different life experiences and build bridges to deeper, more human connections. Join us in fighting hate through understanding. Realizing that October 1 falls on a Jewish holiday, we hope that participating community partners in the Jewish community will use this as an opportunity sometime that week.
- Think.Plan.Act.: ADL has developed resources to help you respond to anti-Semitic incidents, and stand up to anti-Israel bias. Explore these tools to learn how to navigate challenging situations you might face on your college campus.
Each day, ADL also works proactively and in response to bias and hate, ensuring the success of inclusive and respectful communities across the nation. We are delighted to partner with you.
ADL is a leading anti-hate organization. Founded in 1913 in response to an escalating climate of anti-Semitism and bigotry, its timeless mission is to protect the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment for all. Today, ADL continues to fight all forms of hate with the same vigor and passion. ADL is the first call when acts of anti-Semitism occur. A global leader in exposing extremism, delivering anti-bias education and fighting hate online, ADL’s ultimate goal is a world in which no group or individual suffers from bias, discrimination or hate.
