ADL volunteers from all of the California regions, accompanied by Western States Counsel Michelle Deutchman, ADL Pacific Southwest Region Assistant Director Sarah Matos, ADL Pacific Northwest Associate Director Vlad Khaykin and ADL San Diego Associate Director Monica Bauer, joined more than 80 Jewish community leaders from across the state at the Jewish Public Affairs Committee’s (JPAC’s) annual Advocacy Day in Sacramento on May 11 and 12.  In addition to participating in over 50 lobbying meetings, the group heard from experts and legislators on the issues of the social services safety net and campus climate.

ADL staff and volunteers attended meetings with representatives from their region in advance of official JPAC programming, including meetings with the Mexican Consulate, members of the Latino Caucus, and State Senator Ricardo Lara’s Chief of Staff Erika Contreras.

At the JPAC reception, JPAC participants met with members of the Jewish Caucus to talk about issues of interest and importance to all. At the lobbying meetings, JPAC participants focused on three priorities: budget cut restoration for programs for needy seniors, a hunger bill package, and preschool for all. JPAC participants also expressed support for several other bills, including several immigration bills and an ADL-sponsored bill addressing the threat of paper terrorism.
