LA County Sheriff’s Captain Speaks at ADL/El Caballero Golf Tournament & Awards Dinner Kickoff Event

  • August 12, 2016

As a kickoff to the 33rd Annual ADL/El Caballero Country Club Golf Tournament & Awards Dinner being held September 14, more than 40 club members and guests attended an exclusive briefing by Captain Joseph Dempsey, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Tournament Co-Chairs Alison Diamond and Ian Smith welcomed the group and introduced the 2016 tournament honorees: Alan Wiener (Sam Saltsman Award) and Providence Tarzana Medical Center (Corporate Community Service Award).

ADL Regional Director Amanda Susskind opened the evening and discussed ADL’s close relationship with law enforcement and noted that ADL educates all FBI rookies as well as local law enforcement in anti-bias trainings.

Captain Dempsey’s presentation, Learning About Counterterrorism From the Israeli Perspective, touched on his recent trip to Israel with ADL and the ways Israel’s law enforcement and military procedures differ from those in the United States. He witnessed this first-hand when there was an attack while his group was in Israel, and heard from Mickey Rosenberg, Israel’s Police Spokesman and close friend of ADL, who had just arrived from the scene of the attack. He praised ADL’s trip organizers for granting the group full access within Israel’s security buildings and prisons. Captain Dempsey also spoke about the procedures he learned from Israel’s law enforcement that could be recommended and implemented locally in the Sheriff’s Department.

ADL is grateful to the El Caballero community for its continued support.  For more information on the 2016 Golf Tournament & Awards Dinner, please contact fblattner@adl.org or call 310-446-4266.
