The Pacific Southwest Regional Office hosted 20 colleagues from eight regional offices from around the country February 10-12  for a “train the trainer” workshop on  ADL’s newest education program: Words to Action: Empowering Jewish Students to Address Bias on Campus.  The training was facilitated by national education staff members.

This new interactive education program for college and pre-college students is designed to empower and equip them with constructive and effective responses to combat anti-Semitism and anti-Israel bias on campus.  Words to Action is based on the Confronting Anti-Semitism program model and was updated to reflect the unique nature of anti-Semitism on college campuses, particularly as it relates to anti-Israel bias.

The eight regional offices selected to participate in the training and final planning stages of this important program before it is rolled out nationally.  Regional directors as well as the staff members directly responsible for overseeing the program participated in the inaugural training.  In the LA office, staff members from both Regional Operations and Education attended the workshop.

As part of the training, staff also had the opportunity to hear from international experts from the Los Angeles area, including Dr. Michael Berenbaum from American Jewish University and Dr. Steven Windmueller from Hebrew Union College, both of whom spoke about the history of anti-Semitism.

The Los Angeles office has been conducting similar trainings for Jewish high school students for four years.  This new curriculum is being incorporated into trainings for high school and college students.

Words to Action is one more example of ADL’s leadership in empowering students with the knowledge, skills and resources to respond to anti-Semitism and anti-Israel bias.
