Prominent LA Artists Create Works Inspired by “Imagine A World Without Hate” in Honor of ADL’s Centennial

  • July 25, 2013

Prominent Los Angeles artists have volunteered their time and talents to produce works of art inspired by the Anti-Defamation League’s Centennial theme, Imagine a World Without Hate™. The powerful art will be exhibited and auctioned off at ArtWorks ADL: Justice, Advocacy & Art™ on September 17. This reception and auction will bring together Los Angeles artists and those dedicated to ADL’s fight against anti-Semitism and bigotry of all kinds. ArtWorks will be held at the Beverly Hills home of major art collectors Jeanne and Tony Pritzker.

Using their creative vision to “imagine a world without hate,” over 40 local artists are contributing pieces in diverse mediums and styles. The fundraiser event will begin with a silent auction at 6:30 p.m., followed by a live auction conducted by Eliza Osborne, Vice President, Client and Business Development, Sotheby’s Los Angeles.

There will be gourmet appetizers and live music throughout the evening. All artists will be invited to attend the event so they can meet the collectors and share the inspiration behind their pieces.

ArtWorks will showcase inspiring and unique works from leading Los Angeles-based artists, including paintings by Gary Baseman, Bruce Cohen, Nate Frizzell, Zhenya Gershman, Andy Kolar, Dan McCleary and Ed Moses; mixed media pieces by Craig “Skibs” Barker and Herakut; sculptures by Brad Howe and Soraya Sarah Nazarian; and photographic works by Kim Abeles, David Familian, Ken Gonzales-Day, Zackary Drucker and Rena Small, who is donating a photograph of Jean-Michel Basquiat‘s hands from her series depicting hands of famous artists.

Contributing artists are ethnically diverse, representing the Jewish, Asian, Latino, African American, Persian, as well as LGBT communities.

“The power of art is its thought-provoking ability to push people to think about issues in a different way. ADL’s ArtWorks is an opportunity for artists and collectors to support and advance the elimination of bigotry and hatred around the world,” said Honorary Chair Eli Broad.

100 percent of art sale proceeds will go to support ADL programs to combat anti-Semitism and bigotry of all kinds. Complimentary local delivery will be available for all purchased art.

“We are so proud to present this stunning art event representing the great diversity of Los Angeles and our common goal to secure justice and fair treatment for all,” said Amanda Susskind, Los Angeles ADL Regional Director. “Art provides a unique medium for our message as we work to make the theme for our Centennial – Imagine a World Without Hate™ – a reality.”

Caspar Martin, private art advisor and gallery director of Hinge Modern in Culver City and a well-known curator of celebrity collections, is the ArtWorks curator.
